Missing key players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel MuƱoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable result that virtually secures them a spot in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further victory in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the knockout stages, particularly after a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match provided a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used talent to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a well-taken goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne side that had finished their league season proved outmatched even for a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The Londoners were already weakened by the reports that Mateta and MuƱoz are sidelined with knee injuries.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Shelbourne were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his very first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his senior debut, capping an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
