Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
