Followers Urge Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are urging that a person who jumped a barricade and seized the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast walked down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was scheduled to attend court on the next day. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Several fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of fans had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on 21 November, is the second of a dual interpretation of the well-known theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, securing two for best costume and set decoration.
