One-time NFL star Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to address an attempted murder allegation connected with a gunfire that happened in May, with his counsel entering a innocent plea on his behalf.

Detention records in Essex County, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the NFL, had forgone transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was taken after being arrested in Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has earlier filed a documented not guilty plea to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as soon as Wednesday early for a bail session, Eiglarsh said.

As per his detention warrant, Brown is charged of grabbing a handgun from a protection guard after a celebrity boxing bout in May and firing a couple of bullets at a person he had fought with previously. The alleged individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed authorities that one of the bullets touched his nape.

Eiglarsh said that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was obliged to take were purely in defense against the reported person’s hostile conduct. Brown was attacked that evening and responded within his lawful entitlement to defend himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not immediately arrested because initially officers did not recognize Nantambu as a victim. It not until later in May that Nantambu gave a detailed testimony about the incident to officers and identified Brown as the gunman, the document states.

According to his online content, Brown had been staying in Dubai for a number of months. In a message after the altercation, Brown claimed he was safeguarding himself because he was “jumped by several individuals who sought to take my possessions and inflict physical injury to me.”

A second-degree murder attempt charge in Florida bears a highest 15-year incarceration sentence and up to a $10,000 fine in the event of a conviction.

Brown has dealt with numerous court issues over the period. He earlier had been accused of assault of a delivery employee, multiple abuse allegations, failure to pay child support and other occurrences.

In a 2021 match with the Buccaneers against the Jets, Brown removed his uniform, equipment and handwear and left the arena, leading to his dismissal by the franchise and effectively concluding his professional journey.

Brown, who had 12 years in the league, was an All-Pro wide receiver who spent the bulk of his career with Pittsburgh. For his time, Brown had 928 grabs for above 12,291 distance, the 28th most of history. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl choice.
